Quentin Character Development

Quentin's Description

Claudia has an imaginary boyfriend, Quentin, who is long suffering and a constant disappointment to her. They don’t live together but he visits regularly and they talk on the telephone if he can’t get in to see her. As he is part of her imagination his appearance changes to suit her mood. Sometimes he will be a David Beckham looking guy, whilst in another scene he will appear as a Pete Docherty type, Daniel Craig type or a Hollyoaks Babe. If she is having a bad day he will morph into an uncouth couch potato chav with all that brings with it.

He is as into the horror film genre as she and into role-playing to suit her whims and moods.

Claudia has a paranoid suspicion that he is constantly having affairs behind her back and keeps him firmly under her thumb, sometimes restraining him or keeping him prisoner in one of the rooms.

Analysis and my interpretation

One of the most important aspects of Quentin is that he is imaginary. This works with my show as it is all about the supernatural etc so it isn't weird that she is imagining someone that isn't really there. However I have made a couple of changes to the description to make it fit into my show. In the original description I feel like the audience would feel sympathy towards the character, however how I have described Claudia, I don't think she would be this angry and controlling person. I decided that I wanted Quentin to be like an alter ego to Claudia, that he is all of the bad that she herself doesn't possess, which is why she can feel disappointed in him. I also wanted his character to be linked to the demon within Claudia, I feel like Quentin would be a way for the demon to control Claudia. However Claudia is deep down a very strong character, and her body senses when there is something not right with Quentin, so why she starts to feel angry at him the emotions get too much and he disappears. 
I have kept to the idea that he changes appearance to suit Claudia's mood. With this being said it is a known fact that you can not create a face from imagination, faces that you see in your mind are influenced by people you see in your every day life. Therefore I wanted Quentin to be based on the characters from the show, but have different aspects from each, with certain features being more heightened depending on her mood. For example if she is in a good mood he will have features similar to the kind hearted Ethan and when she is mad he will have features such as the scars like Frankensteins Monster. One of the main features that Quentin will hold is the bases of his look will be very handsome like Dorian Gray, as she is constantly worried that Quentin is cheating on her, and the character Dorian is a known womaniser. 

Quentin's back story
I don't want Quentin to be seen as a nice character, he is everything Claudia is not. He is first imagined by Claudia in the Theatre, were she thinks he is a humble worker. Although she gets very jealous as he is surrounded by beautiful actresses, so is constantly accusing him of cheating on her. This is another reason why Claudia dresses similar to the leading ladies, as she feels this is what Quentin likes in a woman. In his first episode he will be the cause for Claudia's attack in the theatre, as she believes he is looking at the lead actress in a loving way and gets jealous. Therefore when she begins to panic and people start to take notice and come over and help, Quentin disappears. This makes the character very enigmatic and we become fixated on finding out his back story. This can unravel in future episodes. For my shoot I want him to have features from characters such as Dorian Gray, Sir Malcolm and Frankensteins monster. He will be wearing high class clothing like Sir Malcolm, and have the handsome look of Dorian Gray. However this will be ruined with a scar running down his face. This will give me an opportunity to try prosthetics for the stitching. 

Key word
The key word I have chosen for this character is Stitches because this is one of the common traits he takes on when Claudia is angry at him. This idea reminded me of the storyline for American Horror Story in the series Coven, when they put together the best features from decapitated bodies and creates a boy called Kyle.
