Death Masks

he death mask was a wax or plaster mask of the deceased face. This would usually be displayed in the family home to remember the dead family member. One of the most famous death masks was called “The Unknown woman of the Siene”. She drowned in Paris in the 1880’s and was compared to the Mona Lisa because of the faint smile in her expression. Many said her face was beautiful and she is famous even now, as she is the face of the CPR dummy.

In lessons we then got to create our own death masks, we did this by shining a light on our face then taking a photo to see where the shadows fall. then using my ultra foundation palette and supra colour palette I copied these shadows onto my face.
