Claudia, Quentin and Mrs Laderman are new characters that are going to be introduced to one out of 12 TV series. We can choose which show and which two characters we want to design as well as how they are going to be introduced to the show. I was really excited about being in control over what TV series we enjoy and starting to design each character to fit the show. The only part I am a little wary of is the characters already having character descriptions as I feel that some of the descriptions don't fit the shows theme as well as others. However I think I need to choose a TV series before I worry about the rest of the brief. I researched into each show a little more before making my final decision.
The Walking Dead
An American drama series that began in 2010 which was developed by Frank Darabont. The idea of the show and the characters are inspired by comic books written by Robert Kirkman, Tony Moore and Charlie Adlard. It all begins with a Sheriff, Rick, played by Andrew Lincoln, who awakens from a coma to find himself in the middle of an apocalypse where the "walkers" (zombies) dominate the world. The story follows him as he encounters survivors on the journey to find his family. This series is an old favourite of mine, I love how if you are someone who hasn't read the comics, you can't estimate who is going to survive and who is going to die. Yet even if you have read the comics it would be amazing to see the stories come to life. Also it isn't always set in the now, you start to learn more about the past of each character and really start to bond with who they are. Even though this is one of my favourite shows, and I love the prosthetics with in the show, it isn't really one of my strongest abilities in make up so I wanted something that a gave me more options.

American Horror Story
Created and produced by Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk this American horror is one of the more interesting in that each series is it's own miniseries with a beginning, middle and end. With each series there are some core characters such as Jessica Lange and Evan Peters. The first season, Murder House, centres around a family that moves into a haunted house in LA where the past dead occupants still live. The second series, my favourite, is Asylum that follows the story of the mentally insane. The Coven, follows a group of witches that live in New Orleans. Freak show is set in 1952 and tells the story of one of the last remaining American Freak Shows. Finally the fifth series Hotel, that has none other than Lady Gaga acting is due for release in October. Another amazing show with talented actors and gripping story lines. There is also a lot of amazing ideas that come to mind while thinking of this show, however I feel this would be a popular one to pick with the rest of the class and I wanted to push myself and pick a less obvious show.

Dexter
Based on the novel Darkly Dreaming Dexter (2004) by Jeff Lindsay. The story of Dexter Morgan, a blood spatter pattern analyst for Miami Metro Police Department. However he has a dark secret with an interesting twist, he hunts down murderers who haven't been caught by the justice system and kills them himself. An eye for an eye. I haven't watched this series myself but have heard from many how good it is. It is something I'm intrigued to watch as the storyline is so interesting and I think it would be fun to see a show where the "villain" is actually hero of the story as well. With this being said because of how little I know of the story and the fact that I don't believe the character descriptions for the new characters fits this show very well.

True Blood
Created and Produced by Alan Ball this American TV drama is based on The Southern Vampire Mysteries novels by Charlaine Harris. Set in a fictional small town in Northwestern Louisiana where there is a co existence between humans and vampires. Although like many stories its not that simple, with many of the humans and vampires still believing that they are more superior than the other. In comes Sookie Stackhouse who is a telepathic waitress played by Anna Paquin who seems to attract danger. Something I love about this show is that it represents so many different fantasy characters from fairies, to werewolves to vampires. It also covers a lot of topics such as religion, homophobia, love and loss. This show was one of my old favourites and I love all the characters. My issue with this one is that there were so many different characters represented already I couldn't think of many ideas for new characters.

Bates Motel
A prequel to Alfred Hitchcock's 1960 film Pyscho, this contemporary drama thriller follows the lives of Norman Bates and his mother Norma and their attempt to start a new life after Norma's husband death. They purchase a motel in a fictional town White Pine Bay, Oregon. This is another series that I've heard great reviews about but never watched myself. In particular I like how it is linked to a already famous horror film, as at least with this you know what happens after the show is finished. I also love the fact that although this is a prequel to the 1960's film so should be set in the 1950's, it is set in contemporary times just with a few influences of the 1950's. I do love the sounds of this series however I don't get any initial thoughts about character designs.
Buffy the Vampire Slayer
A classic show that was one of my favourites during my younger days, even if it scared me a little bit. Created in 1997 these series follows the story of Buffy Summers (Sarah Michelle Gellar) who is a Vampire Slayer. These slayers are chosen by "fate" to battle against not only vampires but demons and other forces of darkness. The story also involves her loyal circle of friends and a Watcher who teaches, trains and guides Buffy. Once again I loved this show however I had no original inspirations when thinking about this show.

Vampire Diaries
Based on L. J. Smith's popular book series this supernatural drama was created by Kevin Williamson and Julie Plec. set in Mystic Falls, Virginia a small fictional town that is haunted by supernatural beings. This story follows Elena Gilbert (Nina Dobrev) who falls for Stefan Salvatore (Paul Wesley) who is a vampire. As the story unfolds a love triangle starts to evolve between them and Stefan's brother Damon Salvatore. Later in the series characters such as the Original Vampires and Elena's doppelgänger Katerina Petrova get introduced and cause trouble for the town. This is another one of my favourite shows, not just because of the amazing storyline but also because of the gorgeous actors! With this being said I wasn't interested in doing this show because I feel it isn't actually "horror" enough.

In The Flesh
A British series on BBC three that has its own take on a zombie apocalypse. Rather than Zombies taking over the world, this take on apocalypse shows the zombies being re introduced to civilisation. They have to be reanimated with makeup to make them look "undead". Other than seeing the adverts I haven't actually heard much of this show, although I find their interpretation of an apocalypse very interesting and original. I think this is a very "British" look at an apocalypse, taking control of a bad situation and turning it around. I like the concept and I actually really like what you could do to a new character, but its not a show I was that into.

Being Human
Another British supernatural television series on BBC 3 this one written by Toby Whithouse. This show mixes horror and comedy as we see three flatmates, a ghost, a werewolf and a vampire try and live a "normal" life. Two of the original cast from the pilot episode were replaced by Aidan Turner and Lenora Crichlow to join Russell Tovey. Further along in the series Sinead Keenan and Michael Socha also became main cast members as werewolves. Damien Molony joined as a vampire and Kate Bracken as a ghost. I love this show and all the actors in it and especially how it takes a comedic look at the supernatural. With this being said I didn't think studying this show would be a push for my makeup skills unless doing a werewolf, which would take a lot of prosthetics. As I'm still not overly confident with extreme prosthetics this was another no.

Hemlock Groves
A Netflix original series, this horror follows the strange happenings in Hemlock Grove a fictional town in Pennsylvania. Peter Rumancek is a newcomer who arrives just as brutal murders start to occur. Many stay away from him as rumours of who he is begin to stir, however Roman Godfrey the heir to the towns wealthy Godfrey family befriends him and they work together to find out the dark secrets hiding in the town. This was one of the series that I started to watch when we first got the brief, as I wanted to know more about it. I was really drawn into the show and all the secrets that were yet to be revealed, and this was the first show that I questioned how I could bring in Mrs Laderman. However near the end of the first series I wasn't as gripped, and I couldn't think of a look that wouldn't involve having to use heavy prosthetics.

Hannibal
Shown on NBC this American psychological thriller is based on characters and elements from the novel Red Dragon by Thomas Harris. Characters Will Graham, a FBI special investigator and Dr Hannibal Lecter, a forensic psychiatrist go from friends to become great enemies. A show that I'm very interested in watching but have never seen before. With this being said I don't know enough about the show to think of new characters for it.

Penny Dreadful
A show created for Showtime and Sky by John Logan, this is a British-American horror TV series. referring to the Penny dreadfuls, which are cheap fictional publications from the 19th century. The show includes many Gothic horror favourites, including Mina Harker and Abraham Van Helsing from Bram Stoker's Dracula, Victor Frankenstein and his monster from Mary Shelley's Frankenstein and Dorian Gray from Oscar Wilde's The Picture of Dorian Gray. This is what particularly drew me to this show as I loved how they mixed classic tales with their own characters. I hadn't heard of the show before this list, but started watching it soon after and discovered how hooked I could get. This was definitely a show I was interested in looking further into and is my chosen show for the brief. I feel the characters would fit into the show and I already had ideas from the first episode.
